From Rooted in the Earth by Dianne D. Glave

"God waits inside the church. S/He is also waiting by a waterfall or under a tree for communion and fellowship with those of us here on Earth." (page 56)

Cornell University instructor Anna Comstock published the natural history bible in 1911 entitled Handbook of Nature Study. Schools at the time also used John H. Gehrs' Agricultural Nature Study. (page 108)

Calling all nature lovers! Be part of this free and exciting event as the National Park Service celebrates 100 years of service and conservation by looking at biodiversity across our nation. Help discover, document, and celebrate the rich biodiversity in our national parks.A BioBlitz teams up volunteer scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible. In 2016, BioBlitz goes national. The cornerstone National Parks BioBlitz: Washington, D.C. will take place May 20-21, with more than a hundred concurrent BioBlitzes happening at national and state parks across the county.
The 2016 National BioBlitz will consist of:
  • A major BioBlitz, co-hosted by the National Park Service and the National Geographic Society, at parks in and around Washington, D.C. with an accompanying Biodiveristy Festival on the National Mall at Constitution Gardens.
  • Simultaneous, Regional Showcase BioBlitzes in different regions of our country.
  • Hundreds of concurrent BioBlitzes in national parks across the United States.
MRC is sponsoring a BioBlitz at Martinak State Park on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 (schools closed). Adults and supervised children will identify and document as many species as possible in the park for the Maryland Biodiversity Project. Individuals and groups may participate on their own any time the park is open (sunrise to sunset) or by joining an organized program. Events start at 10:30 a.m. and include a children’s program with nature stations and guided trails walks with expert naturalists.
